I have an odd shaped shower room which I'm going to gut and renovate soon. The odd shape means I can't get a shower tray to fit but as I'm tanking the whole area anyway, are there any issues with with building a timber shower tray? I'm thinking 18mm marine ply generously sealed plus the tanking kit should be okay but what about the drain area? Any thoughts?

+ look here

an here

I always built my own wet room substrate an used BAL WP1 Tanking System

after ripping up the old flooring ,you should put extra support noggins in the joists then treat/soak in wood preservative , lay your 18mm WBP,screwed down at 200centres then tank an tile

hope this helps :)
