I hope this is in the right section, couldn't see a dedicated kitchen section.

I have been scouring the internet for cheap kitchen carcasses and doors.

I have pretty much decided on a company called www.121tradedirect.co.uk

They manufacture carcasses and doors (want pvc wrapped) themselves and only buy in worktops.

Has anyone ever had dealings with them, as I'm dubious about placing a large order without seeing their stuff first?

Or any other cheap good supplier/manufacturer who will sell direct?

Thanks

I've not had any dealings with them, but their carcases look well specified.

In the past I've made my own, but now I'm not sure it's time well spent. For my latest kitchen I went to Magnet. Quality was fine; prices (unless in one of their frequent 'sales') ridiculous.

I looked at making my own carcasses too, I even bought a pillar drill specifically for the purpose, but couldn't justify the time and expense (space is an issue here too).

To be honest, when all's said and done they're all cut pieces of MFC, banged together with cams and dowels. Spending time and effort making something that aint going to be any better than a mass produced item for not less money is not a good use of resources, is it?

Magnet, IMHO are not good. Quality is same as the 'sheds'. price is significantly higher, due to them aiming at a higher end market.

It's all MFC and vinyl wrapped mdf, no matter what handles and Corian worktops you put on it!

I too am thinking of ordering a kitchen (carcasses and doors) from 121tradedirect.co.uk and was wondering if there is anyone with experience of their products and services.

The above I can reccomend both proffesionally (we sell material to them) and also personally (just had a kitchen in December) - they manufactur carcasses out of top quality 18mm MFC (well, arguably the best MFC available) and distribute doors from PWS just as almost all kitchen suppliers do (very few wrap their own doors). They distribute Duropal worktops that are pretty good quality for laminate tops too. All fixings are Blum and very good quality.

They offer a massive choice of colours and styles with many different types of units and doors, all available in about 3 weeks and they can be assembled rigid prior to delivery.

Really easy to use website that does a lot of the hard work for you.

Also, be aware of Kitchen companies in the North West - often new companies start up in the area who are the sporn of the imfamous Vance Miller.

Not for one moment suggesting this is one, but its worth doing some homework to make sure you know who you are dealing with.

Such a shame there's no website there.

I just had a look on a map where 121 kitchens is based. Hmm hardly a stones throw away from Vance Millers operations in Oldham. ;) ;)

Hi,

Since posting this thread, almost 3 years ago, I have purchased 3 full kitchens from '121'.

The company (or the retail bit) is run by a father and son team.

I have had no problems with them at all, apart from the usual bits missing on delivery but I think everyone does this!!

The carcasses are on the website, just checked.

They sell the same range as many other internet based people, what I like is that I can buy it all separately, ie carcasses only, or just two doors, etc.

Their fittings, hinges and furniture are rubbish but I throw (or sell on the bay) these and buy Blum instead.

I am about to start another kitchen and will definitely consider them for my carcasses!

Hope this helps

Andy
