Hi all,

Currently in the process of getting our loft converted but after having the staircase installed and getting some bits cleared from the loft space we’ve ended up having to get the roof felted and retiled which has taken up a massive chunk of our budget. That being all of it!

We have had structural drawings done which detailed what needed to be done to allow us to remove some supports to open up the space (see photo).

We had a quote for these works today and at the moment we don’t have the money to do it so just wondering if this is something, as a pretty confident DIYer, that I can do myself with a bit of advice and guidance?!!

I will also be needing to install some 8x2’s going from the partywall to external wall.

(The plan from the start was to get someone in to do the big jobs (new staircase and structural) and I do the rest of it (insulation, floorboards, plastering etc)

If you're able to do it then you can do it, plenty will help out on here, get more responses posting in the building section though, even though it's a loft.

its worth noting
full replacement support including propping if required must be in place before removing anything to stop at minimum slumping [out off position ] to full or partial collapse
these things tend to have sequence giving safest most efficient options
are there any steels or very heavy timbers involved[added or removed ]??
they may require the roof ridge being levelled and associated timbers lifted, leveled this should be done before any changes as orientation and connections will change
