I was unemployed and bloke I know was going away for a few days, while he was away asked me if I could felt a shed roof and then stain the shed for him, couple hours work for £50. Happy days.

On first trip up stepladder I fell off and hurt my foot, no one at home (he had paid me up front) so thought oh it will be fine I will carry on.

After few hours had completed the job and limped to nearest pub for a pint happy I had done a good job.

When I went to meet girlfriend she was laughing when she saw me limping as I am know as being accident prone and thought I was pretending to be hurt. Got home took off shoe/sock and foot all swollen and bruised. Went to A&E and had broken 3 toes when I fell off the ladder but carried on working. After 4 hours in A&E got home and bloke rang to say I had put the felt on upside down and he had to do it before morning as didn't want shed ruined if it rained while he was away

he was ok about it, had a laugh telling everyone (which I didn't mind) and didn't want the money back when I offered, I teased him I was going to sue and he said he would countersue for taking money under false pretentions, was about 7 years ago and he still mentions it when we have had a few drinks, brother of my other half and him are friendly and she panics a bit now if I mention doing any DIY

did you not twig that the green / blue side went up and the black side went down?

I bet your gaffer has to keep shouting "green side up!!" at you when you're laying turf too?

Wouldn't say unemployable though my boss might think different, as thread subject suggests DIY not for me.

Work in IT and time I did that job (or didn't do it) was unemployed for about 2 weeks. I am almost 47 and since leaving school at 16 have only been unemployed for a total of 14 months

Being Irish I know the turf goes green side up

I find your reference to being Irish bothe racist and offensive

Wasn't sure I could be racist and offensive to my own race.

Sorry for any offence caused to anyone

I think Dex was joking, I think!

No offence taken anyway, we Irish can take it
