Do I have a faulty Honeywell V4043H Zone Valve?

Just bought a new V4043H, not wired in yet.

My understanding is that the micro-switch sits between Grey and Orange wires, and makes the circuit when the valve is open.

When I open the valve manually with my circuit tester across Grey and Orange (or across any other pair for that matter!) the circuit is NOT made.

Have I got a duff valve, or for some reason does the micro-switch only work when the valve powers itself open, and not when it is opened manually?

No it is OK, opening it manually does not cause the cam to operate the micro switches. But when power is applied to the motor (brown and blue) the micro switches will make as the motor turns the cam to operate same.
