I stripped the wallpaper in our 1930s semi front room. This has revealed and also caused some damage to the plaster, a good chunk has come off around the fireplace surround (which I have just removed), there is a fully blown area; and a few areas that either show signs of damp or have been damaged by previous building work. I think the walls are all single skin. I plant to board up the fireplace after the gas fire and hearth is removed.
What would you suggest for getting this rectified? I started the job, thinking I would DIY rectification of the chimney breast, but given the damage elsewhere in the room I'm thinking about whether I'd be better adding/moving some electrics and getting someone in to do it.
What would you suggest? I'm not sure what scale of the job really is i.e. is it repairable? Essentially if I was to do it myself - what would it involve? Repairable - or would I be looking at having to chissel off all the plaster to re-do it from brick, or plastboarding it over? Or would I just need the exposed brick areas re-plastered and the rest skimmed?
