Do I need a water thermostat

Hi
I live in an old house and am replacing my hot wter cylinder- indirect vented. I'm going to put it in an airing cupboard in the middle of the house so do I need a thermostat or even a motorised valve?
I don't mind very hot water- in fact it makes filling a bath quicker .
Extra heat lost from the tank is not really 'lost' anyway.
I'll never want to heat the house and not the water- though often the other way round.

So why bother with separate controls?

Any thoughts?

It does make sense and will save you money. Why heat the water when it has reached 60°C. It will be too hot to use, especially if you have children. You would then use your fuel to heat the house only or turn off the boiler. They have stopped giving away gas, oil etc, or hadn't you heard!

Lunat, I like the sound of the tap stat you suggest. It would suit my system.

The only question I have is would it not damage the boiler if the tap stat closes the flow to the cylinder and the boiler is still trying to pump water to the cylinder?

if you have gravity hot water then it wont be pumped into the cylinder, just round the rads. check with boiler instructions to make sure a tap stat is ok on your system/boiler

the system must have a BY-PASS even if the TAPSTAT was not fitted.TAPSTAT should be fitted in a way so that FEED and VENT from the tank is not obstructed.
