Do I Still Need The Cold Water Tank?

We have recently had a full installation of a combi boiler central heating system.

They have left the cold watertank in the loft which is still feeding cold water to the bathroom taps (sink and bath).
Is this common practice or should the cold taps be mains feed as we were under the impression that this the whole point of a combi boiler.

We would appreciate any advice as we need to understand if they have basically not completed the job properly and the course of action we must now take.

Many thanks,

Normal practice would be to have the tank disconnected and the taps you mention connected to the cold mains. Easily done in the loft by connecting the cold mains to the old ball valve to the outlet from the tank to these taps.

This way you will have balanced hot and cold in the bathroom and fresh cold water.

If this affects the WC then you will have to change the ball valve inner to high pressure.

Cold should be on the mains but is still ok being tank fed too.

Think your query will depend on if your quote for installation included swopping the cold feed from tank fed to mains supply.

If you had a cheap job then this may not apply.

However a top notch paid job should include it ;)

Thanks for your reply,

Do you know of any reason why they would leave this tank in the loft?
Are we within our right to complain if it is 'Normal Practice' to remove this?

We have spoken with them and they have said we will come back and convert to mains but it will cost you £160, is this reasonable for them to charge us or shoudl this always be part of an install?

Thanks,
Stew

As Bahco said, it all depends on what the written quote they gave you said.

I always try to itemise my quotes and always quote to disconnect the tanks in the loft with a combi, but not to remove them.

Read back over the quote given.

£160 seems a bit steep for what should be a 30min job and a little bit of 15mm pipe
