Do you need a vertical dpc below the damp course?

Hello, I'm referring to where the new cavity wall connects to the existing outside wall.
I intend to cut the bricks out and connect the inside wall of the extension to the inside skin of the house. I wasn't going to do this until I got to the dpc height.
But is it necessary to do something below the dpc? If so will cutting a slot vertically and sliding 112mm dpc in. Cheers
