Hi folks can you tell me if this is normal please or just cutting corners, had a new boiler fitted just over a year ago been working fine no problems , but today i went to change the light switches for new ones so went to cut the power for the light switch at the fuse box and it also cut the power to the boiler, so it seems when they fitted the boiler they have powered it off the fuse for the light switch??

not sure mate i can only assume that they have wired it via the fuse box and the control for the CH.

It could have been like that for ages, and you never knew.. if the boiler was being upgraded and it was like that before hand then the installer has just given you a like for like replacement.

If he had told you that you should have had a fused spur and you needed an electrician to install this and it would cost you around £500 you would no doubt have been un happy...and questioned his credentials...

it is never easy for tradesmen to know how to handle these situations...and there isn't a rule....

I never find it difficult at all!

All I do is to explain to the customer what the situation is, the possible options and let him decide what to do.

It is a year old, and works fine, what exactly is your problem?

Dont have a problem mate? not being a plumber or a spark wondered why it was not wired to its own 15amp fuse instead of the one for the lights. Got a spark to fit the light switch as well cost £0.00---- well maybe a few pints. Thanks to all who took the time to reply cheers.
