I have heard that if you have a power shower, then you have to get a water meter installed, could anyone either confirm or deny this please.

We are planning on haveing a power shower fitted, but won't do if it means we have to have a water meter fitted (there are five of us in the house, and we are sure a water meter would end up costing us more than what is already payed)

Thanks

Adam

CHeck your water provider, they vary.
Another "reg" which is widely ignored.

only if the pumps flow rate is in excess of 12 litres per minute

Thats according to water regs

The Water Supply regs, Statutory Instrument 1999 No 1148.

Contains no mention of requiring a meter for a pump, Local bylaws may cover this topic.

Notification

5. shall give notice to the water undertaker that he proposes to begin work;

Shall not begin that work without the consent of that undertaker which shall not be withheld unreasonably; and

Shall comply with any conditions to which the undertaker's consent is suject.

d, a pump or booster dawing more than 12 ltrs per minute, connected directly or indirectly to a supply pipe.

Installation has be notified but no mention of water meter ??

And to avoid convusion that don't mean there aint a new reg or bylaw that dosen't cover it.

Best to have a quite word with your local water supplier

I wont tell if you wont, ignore it like all the other people do, it's not like we are short of water is it.

I have googled and read other things on the matter, and it would seem that if you have:

a power shower, or
> 230 l bath or
sprinker system or
reverse osmois water softener (what the hell is one of those?)

then the water company is entitled to fit a water meter should they want to...

And the way I read the above posts on the matter, you only have to inform them if the pump draws more than 12 litres a minute?, if this is the case, could they still fit a meter if they found out by other means?

Also, do plumbers have any kind of duty to inform water companies of where they have installed power showers?

cant say I ever have, would not worrie about it too much its only a matter of time till we ALL have to have meters

Its just we use quite a bit of water:

there are five people here, and some of us shower everyday
one of us while not taking a shower every day (about every two days, showers for about half an hour)
one of us has baths quite often
the washing machine runs everyday, and sometimes more than once a day.
The dishwaser is run everynight, and quite often gets put on rinse during the day
we have a reasonable sized garden that needs watering in summer

WHere did you find the link to meters? It seems to me they fit meters wherever they want to .

The householder and the plumber are obliged to inform. I'm sure that at domestic level, hardly anyone does.

By-laws have all gone, except in Scotland.
