Does Size matter?

Just a thing I was thinking about the other day :wink: When I moved up to a bigger trowel many years ago I also made myself a bigger hawk out of some 1/8th inch aluminium to accommodate the size of my trowel. Do any of you lads use bigger hawks to match your trowels?
 
funny you should mention it, i went back to my 14inch trowel today for first time in ages, doing some awkward stuff (loft) and the longer toe came in use for it but noticed that my hawk seemed an inch or two too small, thinking about getting a bigger hawk now.

how big's yours? :lol:
 
The main trowel i use is a 13" Tyzack s/s and my hawk is a 12" square aluminium one. I also have a slightly bigger (13") polyurethane one as well, but I prefer the metal one. It's easier to keep clean.

I have made my hawk 14"x!5" and it's bloody heavy when loaded up with mortar :lol: but nothing comes off the sides when loaded with plaster :wink: I just took the plastic handle off my old 12" hawk and drilled a hole in the middle of the "ally" and put it on ...
