Does this microwave waveguide need replacing?

I'm not sure if I can post my question here, but going by the pictures provided, does it look like the waveguide need replacing?

A family member recently tried microwaving popcorn, whereby the bag over-expanded - got stuck, resulting in a slight burn to the waveguide.

The microwave has been in use since, but only just realised (perhaps due to moisture and wiping) that there's now a small area of white bits (plastic?). Is this of any concern, particularly to health through consumption of heated food?

Any advice appreciated.

Do you mean the mica window?

If it is contaminated with food particles, the damage will increase until it perforates.

You can buy replacement, it is charged per square inch, usually cut to size.

Round about £10

Thanks - so as it is, it should be fine to continue using without worrying about health implications?

I'll keep an eye on it. If it deteriorates, I'll look at replacing the cover.

Yes, it should be ok - if it starts getting dusty, don't breathe it in!
Mica is used in filler, paints and cosmetics - not an issue if ingested.
As you say, keep an eye on it :)

Given the size and multiple moulded shapes on that sheet, I suspect it will have to be an OEM replacement, and could be a bit more costly.

Thanks RandomGrinch.

Do you mean if it starts flaking off? I can't see it getting dusty?

When I saw one it formed a crater and bits burst off it.

I don't think it's mica, picture 1 shows a dome in it, pictures two and three look like it has a bevelled edge.

I believe they use a synthetic material now.
