I suppose the argument will be that the executive has exceeded its authority and is acting illegally. And it is those actions of the executive which should be put on hold until the Supreme Court rules. Not the other way round.

Roberts Jr. on Wednesday denounced President Trump’s attack denigrating as a partisan “Obama judge” the California federal jurist who’d recently ruled against his asylum policy.
“We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges,” Roberts said in a surprise statement, a day after Trump had assailed Judge Jon S. Tigar of the U.S. District Court in San Francisco and called the San Francisco-based 9th Circuit Court of Appeals “a disgrace.”
“What we have,” Roberts continued, “is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for.”

Trump appointed 3 judges during his first term as president, so by the end the supreme court had a majority of MAGA nutters running the supreme court

He is a right wing judge appointed by GWB. Apart from that, apparently he has a brilliant legal mind.
As with many things in his life, Trump has been extremely lucky with the timing of the deaths and retirements of various Supreme Court judges.
