We had a beautiful garden room installed at our home 2 years ago. Shortly after and not allowing the wood to weather, I hastily 'protected' the lovley cedar cladding.

But..... I royally messed up and used the wrong Osmo wood treatment oil. I got a tinted version instead of the clear.

I foolishly slapped it on thinking it would dry clear. It did not. It dried patchy and a dark brown. The oil has, by this point deeply penetrated the grain.

I'm sick of looking at my mistake.

What can I do to fix this disaster!

Use same or darker shade of oil to cover your mistake.
One coat always comes patchy, always.

My partner hates the colour. I'd happily even it out, but I would like to change it, or at least alter it.

I think your being a bit harsh on yourself.
It really doesn't look to bad.
Come the spring , give it another coat.

Your options:
- Sand it off. You'll be left with stain in the grooves
- Take the timbers off and turn them around. Not sure what they look like on the other side.
- Live with it. Even out the finish with some more coats.
- Bleach it. Not sure how effective this will be.

IMHO only 2 choices: live with it or replace it.
