Hi all,

Two of the internal doorways on my house are solid 9" brick. Is it regular practice to make the door casing the same width or would you use a 4" casing then plaster the remainder?

Many thanks.

you can do either.

it is possible to fix liner across the whole width of the opening and use a knock-on to create a rebate, or use a 4,1/4" door casing and return the plaster to the remaining masonry. a timber liner would have to be specially made probably using glue, biscuits and clamps, in a workshop.

someone on this forum has used ply but i'm not sure how the edges would look, or how well it receives hinge cut-outs.
