Eldest childs door frame suddenly split last night, probably swinging on it. Anyhows its quite a big split around the hinge ive had to remove the door. The actual frame leads up into the loft and is also part of the frame for a window light above his door. How best to fix this? I was thinking of cutting it at normal door frame height and fixing in a new piece of timber. Attach hinges and door to this. The remaining existing frame will be covered as I have plastered over window light to blend in with the wall.

Or is there an easier way?

Could you remove any architrave and put in screws to pull the split back together? Inject with glue first of course and then reattach the architrave to cover up the screw holes.
