The main door to our flat is woodchip and has a lock with a lever type handle which is held in by 4 screws. They have become loose and now the top two screws are coming completely out of the door and can't be screwed back in, is there any way I can fix this or will I need to replace the door?

rawl plug,or small dowell gentley tapped in with some glue or matchsticks.

The center of the door is 'woodchip' as you call it, the edge should be timber all round will additional timber where the lock is fitted, if you are seeing 'woodchip' it would suggest the lock has been installed on the wrong edge of the door. You can get a double ended screws which will pass right thru and hold door handle from both sides. Some handles are secured to the door spindle which takes the strain when pulling on the door, is yours is this type the retaining grub screws may have come loose or fallen out.
