i CANT GET MY FRONT DOOR OPEN. I LOCKED IT AS USUAL, WHEN I WENT TO OPEN IT AGAIN IT STAYED LOCKED. I THINK IT IS THE LOCKING MECHANISM. WHRN I GO TO PULL IT OPEN THE TOP PART OF THE DOOR IS FREE, BUT, THE BOTTOM PART OF THE DOOR WILL NOT
BUDGE.
I AM NOT SURE IF THE DOOR HAS DROPPED JAMMING THE BOTTOM LOCKS, OR IF IT IS THE LOCK WHERE YOU PUT THE KEY IN. JUST RECENTLY I HAVE TO REALLY PUSH THE HANDLE UP TO SO THE LOCKS GET INTO POSITION BEFORE TURNING THE KEY.
I HAVE HEARD OF TOEING AND HEELING A DOOR, BUT, I HAVE SEEN VIDEOS OF THIS AND IT LOOKS REALLY HARD AND I DONT THINK I COULD DO IT.
I AM TRYING TO SAVE MONEY AS TIMES ARE HARD AND I AM A SINGLE PARENT TO BOOT.
CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME WHAT COULD BE WRONG AND IF IT WILL BE AN EASY REPAIR.

THANKS MAGGIE

I'm guessing this is the upvc door type? Is this the one complete door rather than a staple door type? Do you mean the door is rubbing on the bottom frame, if so, can you push the door up to open the door?

It's difficult without seeing it but likely will need toe and heeling method, can you tell if the door is dropped by looking at it? Either need toe & heeling or door adjustment or a new euro lock

Hi mansona
Thanks for your reply. The door did once get stuck, but I managed to open it, that was something to do with the metal on the frame. This this is different, when I try from the outside to open it I can see the top part opening, but the bottom part of the door just will not budge. Is it possible that the bottom lever locks can jam and not the top ones.

If I try and put a new lock in how do I remove it. When I did my patio door there were screws to remove, would I have to do the same with my front upvc front door, remove the handle then the lock? I have seen posts on here where they have trouble removing these euro locks, I think that is what mine is, it slightly sticks out abit.
I have tried altering the hinges, but I am not sure whatn they would do.

From what you have said, it is not the lock itself that is causing problems. You will need to adjust the linkage on the edge of the door while it is open.

I sounds to me either the main gear main gearbox or the lower hook gearbox has stripped a gear. there is no easy/cheap remedy for this.

beat to get a few quotes from reputable locksmith company - MLA (Master Locksmiths Association) are normally a good bet for quality. there are a lot of dodgy companies out there!

have a look for for local Buy with confidence registered locksmiths

Stapletons in Worksop are a well established company I can vouch for http://www.stapletons-locks.co.uk/

Hi Thanks for replying, that could be the problem, but the thing is how do I get the door open, to solve that problem.

To open the door is where you need the skills of a locksmith!

I'm afraid thats the rub!

Hi

Do you know of anyone in the Nottingham area who could do this for a resonable price.
