What gap between block work should be left before door frame etc are fitted. Standard internal door.1981 mm x 686 mm

Rather depends on the door liner your going to use. Buy the liner to suit the size door you want & build the blockwork to suit that, that way you know it fits.

What's wrong with stuffing old newspaper between the lining and blockwork if the opening's too big?!

you can get fireproof expanding foam now for that very purpose
