I'm in the process of building a new front Doorstep. I'm planning to build formwork, before pouring a Concrete foundation, then laying stone Treads and Risers onto a Mortar bed.

There is an existing structurally sound cast-in-situ Concrete step in place that has been there for almost 100 years.

The new step will be significantly wider and deeper. Is there a need to remove this existing step in order to pour the concrete foundation for the new step? Furthermore, if it is to be broken up, can I use it, combined with a Type 1 hardcore to form the sub-base?

Christian.
