Hi Guys,

Been having a clear out at work and have been left with a box of bits left over by various electrical contractors over the years. Asked our estates manager if he wants them but he said no and to keep them myself or sling them, obviously i decided to keep them.

Anyway in this box of bits are three brand new dorman smith double pole C32 RCBO's. Now i posted a while ago about a friends electric shower that isn't RCD protected, can i put one of these just after the B32 mcb for the shower to add RCD protection to the circuit? i'm asking because as its a C32 RCBO and not just a standard RCD i'm not sure if regs wise its allowed.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers guys
Dan

PS - I'm not likely to find a use for the other two so are they worth putting on ebay and if so how much do you think i should list them for?

Yes its allowed. But being an RCBO, in an overload situation, either the RCBO or the MCB could trip. Though being C rated RCBO, its likely the B rated MCB would trip first.

Hi Steve,

Cheers for the reply, thats what i wanted to check really was if a B type mcb was ok to feed a C type. My main concern is to add rcd protection to the circuit which i was going to do with a standard rcd but as these have now turned up i thought i'd save them some money.

Thanks again
Dan :)
