Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of having a loft conversion and the arcitect has asked for 5x2 studs with 100mm celotex inbetween / 18 mm seathing and felt battens and mesh for render..

Why would he ask for 4x2? Someone told me it would better to use 4x2 with 75mm infil and 12mm over the top?

Thanks for any help

No it would not be better , it would be cheaper. If you want to make a loft mounted fridge , that's up to you. I think Building Control might have a thing to say about it.

Pardon my ignorance. Surely the other method would stop thermal bridging?

You can do either, though the thicknesses of the Celotex need to be checked. there's nothing wrong with ether method, insulating internally will be better, but only if the overall U Value is increased. Cold bridging through the studs in a wall does not seem to be too much of an issue, its more important on a ceiling as that is typically where this issue arises.

Okay thanks, I see your point. I suppose structurally there is no difference? It's just a felt, batten eml rendered finish?
