Double Dimmer Switch

I'm trying to install a dimmer switch in place of an ordinary switch.

The problem I have is that the new switch has L1, L2 and Common but the old existing switch has 1(common), 3 and 2 across the top and 3,2 and 1 (common) accross the bottom.

Can anybody please advise how I know which is which.
