Double Socket Warm to Touch

I have a metal plate double socket with two USB ports and I have noticed today that the USB's are no longer charging my devices, and the metal plate is warm to touch.

I've never previously noticed the plate being warm and the USB's have always charged devices without issue.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Do the sockets work fine? Or have they stopped working too?

Have you tried with another charging cable?

If they also aren’t working, there might be a loose connection behind the socket. You can turn the power off, unscrew the socket, inspect the wires at the terminals and try tightening them up appropriately.

But I doubt that’s the issue. The issue is probably within the USB charging module. Replace the socket with a reputable brand if it is.

Does it get hot to touch after plugging in a USB device, or does it always remain hot?

The sockets are working OK, just the USB's that are not.
The faceplate is constantly warm (not hot to the touch, just warm).

Is LAP a reputable brand? I'm just looking on Screwfix for a replacement.

It's a brand which only Screwfix sell.
Whether it's good or not really depends on what was specified for it and who made it.

Built in USB outlets in general are a terrible idea as they are powered 24/7 including when not in use, so failure is inevitable.
Those which some people rushed to fit only a few years ago are already obsolete and useless even if they still work.

Good point about them being powered 24/7. I've never thought of that.

On reflection, yesterday, I connected the charger for my drone batteries to the wall socket USB and later that evening, the battery had stopped charging.

I realised that the charger for them has a dedicated plug charger, and I am now wondering if I overloaded the socket which would explain why they are not working!

I have loads of LAP USB sockets in my house, been working fine for at least 10 years. For charging purposes they are far from obsolete.
