just a genreal knowlege on for the experienced.

i believe some flues have down draft divertors, most common with back boilers.

if a old flue has a down draft divertor with new applainces fiited, the products that may spill at one time or another would surely end up stuck in the chimney well would it not. i know that it is acceptable with adequate sealing of bottom end of flue but why is deemed safe to leave down draft divertor flues in instead of single flexi flue being fitted.

All open flued boilers have down daught diverters wether already built into the appliance or fitted above the boiler, And are not in the chimney as the flue would be sealed above them as it enters chimney .

Back boilers have them built into the flue canopy and chimney would be sealed just above the appliance so diverter is not in the the chimney a such.

They don`t just divert down draught they also allow air to be drawn up the flue to dilute products and assist up draught

thanks havent actually seen one as yet but was informed of them as such but what you say sheds more light on the matter
