down lighter loft insulation

hi all this is my first post please be gentle lol

i have low voltage down lighters in my bedrooms and bathroom i need to insulate my loft can i lay the insulation on top ? i've heard about putting cereal bowls over the top then insultaion over the bowl as the bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe. does this sound ok to anyone?

EDIT: shutt, just noticed you found the other recent post re downlights and using plasterboard boxes ... if you make an open ended tent from p/board venting will be through ends.
