Downlight circuit in extension

Some interesting opinions on this. I am going to create 3 banks of 3 downlights and use a total of 9, 50w bulbs. I have a varilight dimmer, rated at 500w and wired from a 3amp fused spur from ring main. Apart from any opinions from the DHS (Downlight Haters Society) does this sound OK ? I need to kepp Mr BCO happy when he comes to sign off

If Mr BCO does his job properly he won't be happy with that at all.

450W for one room cannot in any way be said to comply with Part L.

So far, Mr BCO has been quite reasonable and assisted me without being too pedantic on the ecological nonsense. If he is not happy with it, I'll throw a couple of low energy bulbs in.
I WILL have GU10 downlighters

You WILL be doing is deliberately choosing lights which are specifically designed to not do what you want them to do, which is to light up the room.

Do you exhibit such perverse behaviour in any other fields?

I have been known to buy a t shirt in the middle of winter - won't keep me warm, but hell, it looks good.
Update on the downlight v 60w bayonet debate... I've just put 9, 35w downlights in the extension, they're just hanging down out of the holes and they look grrrrreat, plus the wife loves them, kids are all excited when I dim them then make them bright again, Result !
Thanks to everyone that helped with my original question, I'm off to play with my new lights. Beats this britains got X factor rubbish on TV

So "the majority" is fluorescent. Technically that could mean 1511W of fluorescent and 1509W of other, but I'm sure you mean a much larger percentage than 50.033%.

2.5kW? With a mix of 5' and 6' that's around 40 tubes.

In your house.

And still a lot of "other".

2.8kW? 45 tubes in a house?

You're not spending too much time at work, are you? This is not your living room....

Perhaps 'house' was a little misleading. I meant property.

I have a workshop and stores which is roughly 60m², oh and a shop too.

Most of the lighting is T8, with some T5 and some old T12s which hopefully will be replaced with T5s before too long.

Definately if they fail, and hopefully sooner if I ever get round to it!

You can still get the tubes for most T12s, but apart from 2400mm battens, I've never seen the fittings for sale all the time I've worked in the trade.

It was the tubes I meant.

Thought they were long gone too.

Next time I'm in my Mum's loft I'll have a look - I think there are a couple of twin T12 fittings up there which I plan to replace on account of the tube scarcity.

Might be 8-footers though.
