I bought some low low voltage halogen eyeball downlighters http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp;jsessionid=JYYFUBCWKRLKQCSTHZOCFFQ?id=14020&ts=89751 and wondered if they needed hoods or similar above them. There is nothing in the instructions about this, so should they have hoods (or similar), is it part of the building regs? or the wiring regs? a fire regulation? good practice? or not necessary? if so are there other types of downlighters that require hoods?
any help would be appreciated, thanks

Thnks for the link crafty

"These hoods are not required in most domestic house situations. If the ceiling is in a flat and there is another flat above you, you must use fire hoods."

Can you tell me where this information comes from ?

building regs - fire rating of ceiling must be maintained if there is another dwelling above you.
