I have just moved house and in the kitchen there is a switch running of a spur from a socket. This switch serves no purpose to man nor beast but it is live. Could I use this switch to connect some downlights for under the wall units? If so how do I go about connecting the lights to the switch?

Thanks in advance.

connect the lights to the output or "load" of the fcu & fit a suitable (probably 3A) fuse.Labeling the fcu as supplying the cupboard lights would be a good idea.

Are you sure the switch doesn't control a low level socket for diswasher/washing machine etc?

Thanks for the tips. The switch isn't an FCU but sounds like I need to replace it with one before connecting the lights. It definitely isn't controlling another socket as took the plate off last night and the neutral isn't currently connected to the switch.
