Downpipe union join

I need to extend a square downpipe with a union join fitting and wondering if it needs any adhesive?
I will have a bracket on both bits of downpipe emerging from this.

No adhesive needed and they can just push into the sockets. Drainpipes and gutters are prone to expansion in different weathers so the bit of movement in the fittings is not a bad thing.
