I am putting in a woodburner in an existing fireplace which I have opened up back to the original brick opening.
The constructional hearth is soft brick bedded in sand/weak mortar, and is very damp, and I am going to replace this with concrete. It is an old house (1800) with no DPC, and I want to limit the damp. Can I use viscuin to do this under the concrete as normal, or will the heat melt it/render it useless? I am putting a decorative stone hearth on top of the concrete one.
If this won't work, any alternative suggestions please?
Many thanks for your thoughts.
