Good afternoon. Hoping someone can help.

I'm looking to remove a recessed drain cover. I've used a grinder to take out all of the grout from the edge, but there is no movement at all when I try to lift. I removed the screws by the handle too, not sure if required but didn't help at all. Am I missing something simple?

I have never come across a recessed IC lid that was easy to lift - ever. They are a bastad, simply because of the depth of the sides and the way they always lock themselves into place once the rain has washed a bit of debris into the joint.

Any tips? I've tried a crowbar and whacking it with a clubhammer, but doesnt move even 1mm!!

You need to get some upward lever pressure going along with some smart tapping of the lid as you apply the pressure.

Once you have undone the screws of course. (y)

Once you have removed the screws, can you slide a long metal bar under both the metal handles, and then lever it up from one side?

That or put the bar through the handles, then use an angled wooden shim each side, and hammer the shims under the bar so that the bar then raises the handles.

Still at least 2 screws I can see in the cover, make sure all Four are out, then try a little gentle persuasion with a bar through the handle, one side then the other, if you can break the seal it should lift.

I was pondering this and looked @ " farm jacks " on google - maybe a pair if small ones - one on each lifting handle - 2 operators - cheaper than Andy's pro setup . And I've got the same issue outside my front door ;)
