finished digging a trench for new drainage run yesterday, and rained all evening so the trench was soaked in the morning, pumped it all out, but the clay soil we have was very water logged (high water table area), foot would sink about 5cm if you stepped on it. put a little back in for levels then compacted it as best possible using a hand compactor.
back filled it will 100mm shingles, then lay waste pipe and covered with 100mm shingles, then 100mm wet clay and 100mm type 2 stone as finishing layer.
now the questions is, this will be going under a block and beam flooring, so will not really have any load traffic on it at all, if there a problem with using the wet clay as part of the backfill, i know it will shrink in the summer but as no pressure will be put on it to push it down, is it safe to cover the whole thing and start to lay the block and beam flooring or should i re-look at the backfill type
thanks in advance for any advice
