Hi, I am in the process of draining down a combination heating system but am unsure if you can run the boiler for hot water after the rads have been emptied out.

Common sense suggests to me to turn off the boiler power before draining the system and to complete the work on the heating side of the system before refilling / bleeding the heating circuit before powering it up again.

Please advise if this is correct, thanks in advance.

The boiler will not fire as the pressure will be zero.

Do your job and look in the FAQs for info on refilling. :D

It is possible to run some models for water with the heating valves shut but the boiler pressurized, but it depends what it is.
