I have a British Gas 532 combi, which I understand is basically the same as the Worcester 30 CDi, and I plan to change some of the central heating pipework next weekend.
What I'm worried about is refilling the system and getting knocking/banging when I restart my boiler and damaging it (which is only 6 months old and under warranty).
As I understand what I need to do is:
1. turn-off boiler
2. drain system - open drain valve at lowest point in heating system (I might close off some of the radiators so they keep their water - worth doing?)
3. do my pipework (basically redirecting some pipes).
4. add some inhibitor with a funnel into a radiator bleed.
4. turn switch on bottom of boiler to refill system, when at 1 bar bleed radiators, refill with more water until 1 bar pressure again - repeat as necessary.
5. turn on boiler, hear lots of banging, panic, turn off and call british gas (who fitted the boiler and provide the warranty).
I imagine if there is banging it will be because of air in the boiler, which would need venting. I've looked in the boiler manual and see no advice on venting the boiler, it seems to just have a switch in the bottom to let water in, and that's it. Does it 'autovent' somehow?
I'm wondering if it might be safer just to get some freeze packs and compression joint valves which I'll put in at the points where I'm cutting the pipes, and then just open the valves and add a bit more water when I'm done. I'll need 3 freeze packs though and the are more expensive than inhibitor.
