hi.... just moved into a house that has a pts 1 installed in the garage onto a pipe above the boiler. can anyone please inform me how this works and what settings it should be at for pipe frost protection. it's being used in conjunction with a drayton rts 3 air frost thermostat. thx.

The pipe stat is usually set at about 20 degrees, and the frost stat itself at about 5 degrees.

In this instance, when the area where the frost thermostat is located drops below 5 degrees, it overrides all other heating controls, fires up the boiler and circulates water through the system. However if it wasn't controlled, then the radiators would warm up to their usual operating temperature without any thermostatic control and the property would overheat. So to prevent this, once the water in the pipes is warm and the risk of freezing eliminated, the pipe stat can switch the boiler off and on as required to maintain the temperature of the water in the pipes at 20 degrees, which saves energy and doesn't overheat the property.
