just thinking about the rat item. The best solution would be to block the inlet from the house (is the only pipe discharging into the chamber) to stop rats? Even if did plug off the rodding hole, they can swim up the trap with ease.

Do these non return style gates actually work? Reading a lot that the hinge tends to fail so you end up with it backing up into the house

Rats will chew through concrete, a plastic flap is going to be a snack to them. Unless you have evidence of a rat problem, I wouldnt worry too much about it.

How easy are these traps to clear ? Got an interceptor trap

Very easy to clean but need tools adapted to suit (not available off the shelf) tools cost around £30 (message >)

Depends what's in it. If it bunged up with fat/soap/grease, then should be able to break through that with a corkscrew attachment on the roads, if its grit or concrete then you need something with a bit more ooomph behind it. If chamber isn't too deep, try a wet vac and see if the crud will vacuum out.
