I have just been given a very neglected dresser and would like to restore.

i'm thinking...

1) sand it down
2) acrylic primer (spray can)
3) paint (spray can) for smooth finish.

Does this sound correct?

Also would i need any kind of finish? maybe to stop the paint rubbing off?

I've not done anything like this before and can't find any guides online, just people willing to do it for cash.

Thanks,

I'd rather not use ESP as its a bit heavy duty for me.

I'd rather do things by hand.

Here is a picture in case anyone can offer any advice.

Esp heavy duty?
You do apply by hand.
Very difficult to sand mouldings, more likely to damage.

thanks for the advice foxhole.

i just meant that i'm a total amateur and i have never done anything like this before. i would feel much safer not using something that can melt off paint.

it makes sense tho looking at those mouldings, someone has painted over them in the past so will be very difficult to clean up.

sorry i misunderstood what ESP was, when u said i could use and wouldn't need to do any sanding, i thought it must be a paint stripper.

spent a good many hours sanding this down by hand.

i've now started to hit the wood.

is that enough sanding before i start to apply my first layer of primer?

or do i need to remove all paint?

thanks
