Drill/Cut hole in Cooker Hood chimney

Hi.
I have just installed a Cooker Hood. It seems the manufacturers did not think to design a proper route for the cable & plug.
I will need either to run the cable to the top of the two chimneys, fit a FCU to plug in, then the rig a connection to the 13A socket at the worktop.

OR drill and cut a section at the lower end where the lower chimney sits on the Cooker Hood itself. Please see photo.

Can anyone advise on this, please?.

Sorry, I meant cutting off Cooker Hood plug, and joining with length of cable and plug.

Neither of your suggestions sounds very professional. Please get an electrician to do it properly for you.

I believe the normal way to install cable is to channel cable into the wall and bring it in behind the hood.

Have it done by a professional electrician, as they all do. But I think the op feels it is a plug and play job.

bad idea. No access to the plug without having to remove the chimney

I don't have a chimney, but I had a socket on the wall from an old hood, and I fitted a flex outlet and connected a 4-way extension into it, which lies on top of the wall cabinet. In my case the extractor cable is not visible without steps. I have a dummy cabinet door over the gap between cabinets. One day I might fit under-cabinet lights and feed them from the multiway.

It's all switched by a 5A SFCU in the wall above the worktop, in the same row as all the other sockets and appliance switches

Why do you need access ? It’s just two screws holding the chimney on , simple and very quick to remove .

That's what I was thinking.

So you could have an outlet beside it, and depending on what you find easier, chase out the wall to burrow behind it, or cut a notch in the edge (folded back so no sharp edges) or drill it and fit a gland.

Most installers silicon down the edges, especially if fitted to a tiled surface. So not just removing the screws

Have never seen that done, pointless and would just collect grease . Do you know most installers?
