I've recently had a single brick detached garage built I'm now interested in putting up a few shelves, brackets for ladders etc
Would I be best drilling the Brick or the Cement ?
It depends what type of brick was used. If it is the ones with holes in then it may be better to drill into the mortar for a better fix. If the bricks are solid then see above.
personaly i avoid mortar lines but having said that in a plastered wall you take your chances i think your a lot more likely to get mortar failure than brick failure
but unless you hanging an elephant of a 10x2 screw if the plugs firm it doesnt realy matter
