Having had a whopping additional £680 on my Gas/Electric Bill so far this awful winter I am planning to change my Gas Boiler, but would like to also install a Woodburner with a Back Boiler so I can take advantage of free wood fuel when possible and keep the gas for very cold weather. Any suggestions welcome. I don't have a lot of money so economic suggestions will be much valued.

Is this possible/viable?

Thanks

Don't waste on a wood burner. A lot of messing and you'll get bored with using it. Will never recover the cost of install. Stick with gas.
Lots of insulation.
Only heat rooms you are using.
Thick curtains and thick carpets.
Remove any drafts around doors and windows.

A solid fuel fire/boiler is never going to be a cheap install...Fine to do if you are upgrading your heating at the same time but expect a fair bit of disruption... As Mr Cawkwel has said invest heavily in insulation, not just up to the regulations but go beyond.....
