Just been on a job with a shiny new CU, fitted just last week by the kitchen fitters sparky.

Umm.......Take a closer look. And judging by the state of some of the MCB's, I reckon it's all been knocking around there van for some time!

PME earthing.

It's on a sheltered housing site we maintain. Loads of kitchens have been refitted, the company using their own sparks. All have had new CU's, this is the only one I have seen like this, most are OK. Would be interesting to see the test results....

100mA time delayed.

Is the EIC a candidate for the Man Booker prize?
I'm not sure it is time delayed, I think the S in the code is just part of the product code. The RCDs are usually fed individually from the main switch hence no need to discriminate between the two devices

So it would seem. That'll teach me not to assume.*

So why in earth would you want one of them to be 100mA?

Particularly as the move to dual RCD units with 2 RCDs in parallel instead of split-load ones with 2 in series came with the 17th, which significantly increased the number of situations where RCD protection was required, i.e. to almost 100% in domestic environments, none of which are satisfied by a 100mA device?

* Actually it probably won't....

Never understood why 100ma as it would seem 300ma is the size for fire protection.

I could see why a 100ma RCD would be used for cooker and fridge/freezer but I would question cable used.

In the days before we inspected and tested every time and filled in installation certificates I could understand some one missing which type of RCD is fitted. But today we test everything so how could that slip through the net?

As the sparks come from a long way away for these kitchen refits, I would say one of the 30mA RCD's either broke or was faulty, and they fitted this one as they had it in the van.

... or the 30mA one kept tripping, so they changed it for a 100mA (which didn't then trip) and then ran away to wherever they came from!

Kind Regards, John

I would hope that not to be the case, as I did an EICR on the property as part of the housing schemes "void checks" between tenants a week or so before the CU change, and all was good(in terms of IR). Unless they faffed the ring final or socket circuit up!
