the vent pipe for the waste system on my bungalow comes out the ground by the wall and goes up, bends around the eves and stops about a foot above the eves.

could i cut this off at about 4 foot and put a durgo valve on the top?

i want to do this becuase it looks very ugly at the moment.

thanks

I am not a plumber, but i think that the only reason you pipe goes that way is to stop the smell from coming into your premises.

i did find a page that (but i can not get the url to work) that implies that you can actually fit the valve on the inside of your house, because it mentions allowing gas into your room (when the valve becomes faulty)

but the page the probably has the answer is currently unavailable, but it is

http://www.marleyplumbinganddrainage.co.uk/products/soil_wst/des_air.htm

you could probably also fit http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/sea...&n=d16261-69&pn=1&pd=1&pi=1&cn=1&cd=1&x=0&y=0

which is similar to a durgo valve (perhaps it is a durgo valve under a different name)
