dust-free sanding staircase?

Hi all,

I'm looking to paint the staircase, just wondering what's the best way to sand with minimum dust? Can I use wet sanding then wipe it clean? how about the spindle, what do I use to sand them?

If using an electric sander, you can attach a vacuum cleaner. I have a wet and dry one that turned on and off when the tool is used. It helps a lot.
Spindle wise, scotchbrigh pads may help
