DVD writer firmware update

NEC ND-3520A internal IDE

Has anyone updated the firmware on one of these?

I've tried TDK and Maxell DVD-R discs in the writer and both have been rejected.

Tried Maxell DVD+R and these burned nicely - so a DVD-R issue.

Reading on-line, a firmware update is a feasible solution.

either above or go to the nec website and see if they have a product update list,most do,might require a bit of a search but have done that a few times over the years and its been very helpful in sorting out the problems i had.

Went to

and attempted to download the relevant archive but my anti-virus flagged up, warning of a virus and immediately deleted it.

Have updated the firmware with NECND352_v307.exe

I was warned of a virus but allowed installation of the firmware to go ahead and it seems to have been successful.

Tried to write to a Maxell DVD-R disc and it worked.

The writer has gone from ND-3520A to ND-3520AW.

In view of the virus warning, I did a boot time scan after installation but no virus was found.
