Hi,

I have been doing some work in my house and have removed some boards that were covering the meter tails as they need replacing. I noticed that I have 16mm tails along with a 16mm earth cable... is this a good or bad thing as I thought it was 16mm tails 10mm earth.

Our DNO supplies the earth to our house via a separate conductor in the split con cable.

Thanks

Usually, with 16 mm tails you have 16 mm earth. It's always better for the cable to be bigger than smaller. 10 mm earth is usually reserved for bonding.

It's normal now to use 25 mm tails, with 16 mm earth.

nothing wrong with 16mm earth conductor your tails are at bit on the small size though.

They are 16mm from cutout to meter and then same from meter to consumer unit. The problem is that we have no henley block so the tails come direct from the meter to the consumer unit and this is sealed. I dont see how we are meant to have them replaced.

Not necessarily

They're fine. Don't worry.

Be interested in the main fuse size and the maximum demand of installation?
Likely not an issue, just if your in for upgrade be asking for larger!
