earthing a chrome dimmer switch

I am trying to fit a chrome dimmer switch - can you help , I wondered if it was safe to take the earth wire off from the screw in the metal back box and use that to connect onto the screw thats on the rear of the actual dimmer switch that i bought ?

no. but you should put a link between the two

if a link means a bit more of that earth wire - can i use a bit of the one thats under my sink on the pipe - is it the same type

its the same (all though a bit big) but leave the one on the sink, and any others like that where they are as they are for earth bonding (saftey)

Breezer I think it should be longer than 1mm mate it'll never reach...
