Hi,
My lighting circuit had cpc added at a later date but none of the switch’s have cpc going to them just the lights

Wanting to add cpc and Just wanted to check, the light switch earth will just connect to the light cpc?

The earthing rule came out in 1966, to have wiring older than that, often means the cables need replacing anyway. The problem for most is to test the earth, my tester, Loop-test.jpg a socket is easy, as we have a neutral, plug in wandering leads and the light fitting also easy, but to test a switch with no neutral to run the loop impedance meter, means using a low ohm meter instead, so you need a reference point.

So yes, the switched cpc connects to light's cpc, but how will you test it?

Fortunately the one I need an earth for has a junction box above it with the L N E connections which leads to the light, so I’m just gunna run the earth from the switch to the junction box, I’ll check there’s continuity and resistance, I know the rest of the lighting circuit is correct as it was tested when I brought the house
Thanks for reply

Most of the wiring has been replaced except two lightning circuits and one of the socket circuits, it passed an EICR a couple of years ago so I don’t think it’s necessary yet

Rewiring that one circuit will be alot of work so probably wise to get all the old circuits done at the same time, so I’ll earth for now

It will pass if the switch is non conductive (plastic eg). No need to do anything unless you want to fit metal switches.
Yeah thanks but it’s for the garage so I want the metal clad switch to match the rest of the sockets
