Recently we had central heating installed ( lpg )
prior to this we had 3 x night storage heaters - these were removed at the time.

We have a white digital meter with day and night readings - presumeably the night readings would be for Economy 7 use - the storage heaters.

It just struck me that when reading the meter I still have 2 readings to supply and the night readings still go up.

Should it be the case that with no night storage heating now that we should not be using any E 7 electricity ? If so - why would the readings still go up ?

Would we benefit from having the meter changed for a single tarrif meter instead, as I think with the present system we would are paying more for the day rate due to there being an E 7 rate as well.

The wireless E7 thingy is still installed but presumeably should not be connected up to anything now ?

We are using Scottish Power as our supplier on their 'Pricefall Online' plan

Turn off the CU for the storage heaters, then there's no power getting out on that side of your meter.

If it affects anything else then you have had some circuit (s) added to the eco 7 that you don't know about.

Haven't had the immersion heater on the eco 7 and left that on, have you ?

The Econ7 Tarriff throws the entire installation over to low rate at night.

The off peak hours will increase because of your night time usage.

People with Econ7 typically try to use the dishwasher, tumbledryer, washer etc at night to use this cheap electric.

If you are not taking advantage of the cheap rate, and with no storage rads etc you certainly are not, it is likely to save you money to change tarriff. You may find they change your meter FOC, or they may just leave it there. It depends on your supplier.

If you change to a single rate instead of Economy 7 your day rate may fall, but your night rate will increase. They usually balance out at 15% night kWh. That would mean that if you use more than 15% at night it would pay to remain on Economy 7.

You'll have to calculate your own break-even according to the price your supplier charges for Economy 7 and single rate kWh.
